Question to the Mayor regarding green roots funding.
Question No: 2024/1608
Question (Thomas Turrell AM) 23rd May 2024:
Please can you clarify what the ‘Green Roots Fund’ is, how much funding is available, and when this fund will open?
Answer (Sadiq Khan) 29th May 2024:
In 2016 I promised to make London one of the world’s greenest cities and since then I have made over £29.55m available for green space and tree planting projects across London.
As part of my 2024 manifesto pledge to create a greener and fairer London, I have committed to creating a new London Green Roots Fund for councils and communities to bid for funding to pay for trees, wildflower meadows, parklets and other new green spaces. By providing the money and tools to improve communities the fund aims to give Londoners the power to make their neighbourhoods richer in nature and healthier. My officers are now working on the details of budget, scope and timing for delivering this new funding programme. These will be set over the coming months as the programme is developed.
