How many new tram-style buses are currently in use on the 358 bus route?
Answer (Sadiq Khan): 23rd December 2024
As of 17 December 2024, 14 ie Tram buses are operating on route 358. However, more buses will be phased into operation over the next few weeks, taking the total to 18 buses.

What evidence is there that tram-style buses on the 358 bus route are proving more efficient?

The new technology on route 358 is being monitored for efficiency and benefits as the buses and chargers continue to be used. As the new vehicles have only been in operation since 20 November 2024, it is too early to evidence these benefits.

What plans are there to rollout tram-style buses on other bus routes in London?

Transport for London (TfL) has not currently awarded any new bus route contracts with ie Tram buses. As part of any route contract, the bus operating company will procure zero-emission buses which are most suitable to operate on a bus route.
TfL continues to assess the long-term potential of hydrogen, opportunity charging and garage-based battery electric buses across the London bus fleet.

What training has there been for bus drivers on the 358 bus route with regard to disabled access?
Answer (Sadiq Khan): 23rd December 2024
All bus drivers receive training on how to operate the accessibility ramp in their vehicle. Bus drivers also receive Equality Diversity and Inclusion training as part of their initial training. A new course started this year which is also being delivered to all existing drivers. All driver training is carried out by the bus operating company. In the case of the route 358, Go-Ahead London has facilitated such training for its drivers.
