Thomas supported Councillor for Shortlands and Park Langley Ward, Gemma Turrell, in securing a place for ‘Shortlands Village’ on the capitals bus map, after Transport for London (TfL) agreed to add the village name to Meadow Road and Valley School stops.
Shortlands and Park Langley Councillor, Gemma Turrell, suggested that Meadow Road and Valley School stops be renamed to include ‘Shortlands Village’. This means that passengers of the 358 and 227 will now have some consistency between the two stops. Currently, the routes have different names depending on if the bus is traveling towards Beckenham or Bromley.
The request was made to TfL through London Assembly Member for Bexley and Bromley, Thomas Turrell on behalf of the Ward Councillors in June. TfL replied in July confirming they had accepted the request and would make the change in due course. TfL have not given a timetable for the name change but is expected to be this year, although in August new bus stop signs, with the changed name were put up.
The follows further good news for Shortlands Village after fellow Shortlands Councillors, Felicity Bainbridge and Adam Grant, secured new funding for new street furniture and planters for the village, funded through Conservative-run Bromley Councils Local Shopping Parade Improvement Fund and a contribution from the Residents Associations.

Not only does it put Shortlands Village on the map, but it marries two bus stops with different names – making the local bus route easier to navigate for people who are new or unfamiliar with the area. I am very much looking forward to hearing the bus call “Shortlands Village” when using the 227 or 358. This is fantastic news for our residents and local businesses alike.”
London Assembly Member Thomas Turrell added:
