Welcome to my Councillors Report for June 2022. Above is my video summary of what I’ve been up to this month and below is a more details breakdown.
Civic Centre Meetings:
At the Civic Centre this month I have attended policy development and scrutiny (PDS) committee meetings for those which I am a member as well as attending my first meeting of the Bromley Health & Wellbeing Board. At the Children, Families and Education PDS I was elected as Vice-Chair of the School Places Planning Working Group.
At the end of May I was appointed as the Executive Assistant on the Sustainability, Green Services and Open Spaces portfolio. As such I have met several times with senior officers and the Portfolio Holder as part of this role. In this role I attend the Environment & Community Services PDS to be scrutinised by the committee and provide updates on my work, which is why I did not speak during the debate on School Streets, which included the School Street in George Lane for Hayes Primary School. Both Councillor Michael and I told the School Street Team of our support for the scheme’s continuation.
Below is a summary of some of the items I have bene working on in June:
· Station Approach Wall: The wall was repaired on the 18th June. I am grateful to officers for looking into this so promptly.
· Coney Hall Recreation Ground Sports Equipment: In May I was able to get a notice of removal suspended for the sports equipment which had been anonymously donated in the tennis courts. The Friends of the Recreation Ground have reported to Councillor Alexa Michael and I that there are cases of anti-social behaviour in the tennis court and the noise from basketball is becoming disruptive. Councillor Michael has asked the local Police team to investigate the anti-social behaviour and we are working with both the friends group and the park management to identity a new home for the basketball to ensure this popular feature can remain at the ground but while also reducing disruption.
· Double Yellow Lines: The Council complete their consultation with residents and new double yellow lines will now be installed on the junctions of Pittsmead Avenue and the Green and the junctions both ends of Club Gardens which includes the lines I requested for the junction with Kechill Gardens.
Meetings in the community:
The month started with the Jubilee weekend. It was a fantastic long weekend with lots of celebrations.
I attended several events and celebrations along with my wife Gemma, we really enjoyed judging the Pet Parade on Harvest Bank. It was great to see the local community celebrated. Local children on Harvest Bank and Heathfield, including three children from Ukraine, also made this excellent piece of artwork to celebrate the jubilee which was shown to me at the event. I spoke with Kate Lymer, the Deputy Leader of Bromley Council, who kindly helped arrange for this to be displayed in the St Blaise breakroom at the Civic Centre, this is the room used for the Ukraine support sessions. Once the venue is at capacity it will be then displayed in the Children’s reception area. I also attended the Hayes Common Beacon Lighting, organised by the Hayes Village (Kent) Residents’ Association. Thank you to everyone across the community who organised celebrations and to those who kindly invited me to join them.
I also attended the Hayes Fair at the Warren which was a great event and I’m pleased to see the event back after being unable to take place for the last two years due to the pandemic.
Councillor Andrew Lee and I attend a meeting of the group ‘Flightpath Watch’ in Locksbottom where we listened to concerns from Keston Village residents about noise from aircraft coming from Biggin Hill airport. I am visiting the airport in July and will raise these concerns while there.
If there are any issues residents want to raise with me than please do not hesitate to contact me. My e-mail address is [email protected].
