Thomas Turrell AM has welcomed the news from Southern Railways that they will be restoring services to London Bridge in December. The services were removed in Autumn 2022 despite warning from the local community that this would lead to overcrowding on the Sydenham corridor.
Thomas was part of the campaign against the removal of the services in 2022 and helped organise a petition from former Assembly Member Peter Fortune calling for the services to be retained. Thomas also supported a motion at Bromley Council which called for the services to be restored later that year. The same motion also called for Cannon Street services on the Mid-Kent (Hayes) line to be saved.
Southern, who also run local Thameslink services, announced the news at the Bromley Public Transport Liaison meeting.
Thomas said:
“Removing these services was a mistake and I am pleased that Southern have realised this and are going to restore the services. This will bring much needed extra capacity on this line, reduce overcrowding and make peoples commutes more enjoyable. This is good news for passengers living in Penge, Anerley and Crystal Palace.”
