Below is a written question submitted to the Mayor ahead of May's MQT on the 23rd May and the answer which was recieved on the 29th May.
Question No: 2024/1605
Question: (Thomas Turrell AM) 23rd May 2024:
What are the key environmental commitments that you would like to measure your progress against this term?
Answer (Sadiq Khan) 29 May 2024:
Making London a greener city remains among my top priorities. In my two terms in office, I delivered the ULEZ to clean up London’s air, planted half a million trees, and retrofitted thousands of homes and workplaces, making them healthier, greener, and cheaper to fuel during the cost-of-living crisis.
In my 2024 election manifesto, I restated my goal for London to achieve net zero by 2030. I will work with partners to retrofit even more homes and workplaces, and will help schools to become net zero. By 2030, I will target London reaching 40,000 electric vehicle charging points and making all buses zero-emission. I will continue rewilding programmes to boost nature and create new green spaces in areas that need them most. I will also develop a plan to make London’s rivers swimmable within 10 years.
Officials are being asked to develop programmes that reflect these commitments.
