City Hall Conservatives Assembly Member Thomas Turrell AM has today presented the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan with two petitions by residents in Bexley & Bromley regarding issues with local transport and policing.
The first petition calls on the Mayor of London to provide a Superloop bus stop in Bexley Village for the SL3 Express bus service, which passes through the village but does not stop there. Petitioners claim that the stop would help alleviate congestion on Penhill Road and avoid delays to the service.
The second petition calls on the Mayor and MOPAC to reverse plans to close the Coldharbour Police Base on William Barefoot Drive, and to commit instead to keeping the police base open, in order to reassure local residents and tackle crime. Opponents to the closure claim that moving the local police to Kidbrooke Village would leave residents in Mottingham, ColdHarbour and New Eltham less safe. Assembly Member Turrell was joined at City Hall this morning by Greenwich Conservative Councillors Matt Harley and Roger Tester (Councillors for Mottingham, Coldharbour and New Eltham ward) to present the petition under the Greater London Authority’s Standing Orders.
In a statement, Thomas Turrell AM said:
“I am honoured to be able to present these petitions to the Mayor of London on behalf of Mottingham residents in both Bromley and Greenwich, and it is my sincere hope that Sadiq Khan listens to residents’ concerns. I’m also grateful to support local champions Cllrs Matt Harley and Roger Tester, who have worked closely with me to raise this issue and seek answers for our constituents.
Policing and transport are very important topics and its time that the Mayor sat up and listened to what people want for their local communities, and provide the support they’re asking for.”
